How can I use Twitter to promote my freelance writing without it coming off as spam?
I want to use my Twitter account to do some self promotion. However, I don't want it to be spam like. So how would I go about increasing my followers and tweeting some of my work, with them not be put off buy it? Is there a general rule of how many normal tweets I should do per self promotion link. Many of the other tweets that I see from the people I am following on Twitter are links. I heard you can get banned from twitter for too many self serving links. Is this true? I want to use proper twitter etiquette but promote my freelance writing as well. What is a good balance?
Separate topics with commas, or by pressing return. Use the delete or backspace key to edit or remove existing topics.

Don't use an automated following service--even the free ones--whatever you do.
The thinking is if you follow them, they might follow you. An online marketer advised me to use one a week before re-opening a restaurant, and within seconds, twitter got almost 7000 requests for me to follow people. About 875 stuck, and about 175 returned the favor. .The account was suspended and I had to go through stuff to get it back up and running.
A lot of them are in foreign languages or are get-rich-quick sales pitches, are not in our area or have nothing to do with us. . I pick off a few here and there throughout the day, but a month later Itill have yet to get through the full list of people it has me following. I'm doing it ny hand now, looking for local journalists & celebrities, with better, more targeted results.
A better option: find "#" tags that relate to you. Search for other authors and see what they use--and include that tag in your tweets. For example, I'm in St. Louis, so if you were here you might have a tweet like "Pre-released a new book! Signing at Name of Bookstore today 3-5! #stl" Everyone following St. Louis things, or things with the #stl tag, will get it. You can have more than 1 tag, just separate them by a space.
